When You’re Going Through a Hard Time
This is not the moment to let yourself go—drinking too much, taking drugs,
overeating, skipping exercise, or stopping prayer. This is when you need to
dig deep and care for yourself the most. Make yourself get out of bed.
Don’t stock up on junk food or mindlessly shop online to cope. Be extra
strict with yourself—don’t create more problems.
You’re already facing difficulty, so don’t add a hangover, debt, or bloated
regret to the mix. Brush your teeth. Wash your face and body. Moisturise.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Don’t give up on YOU.
Discipline is Your Superpower
Use this time to bring out the best in yourself. Eat healthily. Drink water.
Every time you want alcohol or soda, reach for water instead. Wash your hair.
Braid it. Do things that lift you—and distract you from self-sabotage.
This phase is about nurturing, protecting, and rebuilding. That way, when
the storm passes, you’re not left fixing the damage—you’re already ready to
move forward.
Show Up for Yourself
Whether you’re healing from a breakup, job loss, betrayal, or grief, one
thing is constant: You need YOU. Show up stronger every day.
It might be hard. It might feel impossible. But I promise it gets easier.
It even gets quicker if you do it the right way.
Can’t cook? Make a smoothie. Eat fruit, salads, veggies. Take your vitamins.
Don’t starve your body.
I stock up on sardines in olive oil. They’re simple, nutritious, and packed
with healthy fats for your skin, hair, brain, and heart. They make me feel
better—and I even look better!
Some of the hardest times of my life are when I’ve looked and felt my
strongest. Even when I was homeless, no one knew. People would ask what my
secret was. If they’d known, they’d have been shocked.
Let People Help — But Help Yourself First
I’m not saying to hide your pain from loved ones. I’m saying: even with
support, take care of yourself. People find it hard to help someone who
won’t help themselves.
Journal. If you can’t sleep from worrying, turn on a lamp and write. Get it
all out. Sometimes, clarity comes in the quiet hours of the night.
I get up early for this very reason. My first three hours each day are just
for me—before the world wakes up.
Use Your Energy Constructively
If you’re not sleeping and your job allows for it, use the time wisely.
Reorganise. Move furniture. Declutter. Let go of broken things. Clear the
space—clear your mind.
Create your sanctuary. Go all OCD if you must! It’s far better than numbing
out with TV, gossip, or drinking. By the end of it, your home will be sorted,
and your soul will be lighter.
Even if the problem still lingers, taking action gives you power. Your mind
processes more clearly when your body is also in motion.
When You’re Going Through Hell…
Keep going. Don’t look back. Move quickly, with focus and purpose. On the
other side of hell is heaven—so go get there.
Don’t admire the walls of hell or join the pity party. It’s a trap meant to
delay your rise. Keep moving.
And Then… Look!
The sun is shining. People are smiling. The hard time has passed. Look how
much you’ve done—and how much better you feel.
Look at YOU. I’m so proud of you.
Enjoy the summer, baby. You deserve it, girl! ✋🏾
